What paid x402 calls list for, as a price band

Last Price now reads the public x402 discovery catalogs every day and turns what paid services list per call into a band for each kind of call: the low end, the middle and the high end, and how many services stand behind it. Price checks use it as a reference, check_purchase shows it next to the price, and anyone can read it. These are list prices only, never evidence of demand.

The x402 Market Price Band section of the documentation in dark mode, with the public index request and a band for inference calls

An agent about to pay for a call over x402 had nothing to compare the price with. Now it does.

  • A band per kind of call: once a day Last Price reads the discovery catalogs that x402 facilitators publish (Coinbase's and PayAI's), keeps every listing priced in USDC, and computes the 10th percentile, median and 90th percentile price per call for inference, search, scraping, markets, media, social, weather and everything else, plus one band over all of them. Each band says which day it describes and how many services stand behind it.
  • One vote per service: a seller listing a thousand endpoints moves the band no more than a seller listing one.
  • In price checks: verify_price weighs the band as x402_market evidence, and check_purchase shows it in fair_price.market_band, with whether the price sits below, inside or above it. A band with fewer than five services, or older than a week, is shown but never judges a price.
  • Public: GET /api/public/x402-price-index (MCP get_x402_price_index) publishes every band without a key, with the catalogs it came from and a daily history.
  • List prices only: the band says what sellers ask, never what anyone pays. Some x402 volume is sellers paying themselves, so it is never evidence of demand, and every answer says so.
